Mega Mind is a misunderstood bad guy turned good when he is
confronted with an even eviler super-villain that he himself created. I like
Mega Mind because he didn’t have any intentions of being evil, he was the sole
survivor of his dying race when his home planet was consumed by a black hole.
His parents entrusted the faith of their race into their newborn child whom
they sent out into the galaxy destined to find life somewhere on a new planet.
When Mega Mind arrives on Earth his space pod is thrown off it’s trajectory by
a rival alien race’s space pod, sending Mega Mind skyrocketing into a prison,
while his rival who later undertook the name Metro-Man lands in the arms of
millionaires who kindly take him in. Mega
Mind learns evil in prison, and Metro-Man learns how to be the ideal civilian.
The story launches from there. I like
Megamind because he isn’t like most evil-villians. He didn’t want to be evil or
didn’t choose to be evil he was just slightly unfortunate in having been
knocked off the correct path, both literally and figuratively. I also enjoy the way Megamind chooses to be a
villain. Megamind creates the most outrageous of plans in his hopes of outthinking
Megamind and winning over his beloved Roxanne Ritchie. Mega Mind’s opponent,
Metro-Man is a mirror image of Super Man, yes, Metro-Man is the all too streo-typical
super hero given in all of these types of movies. He has the Elvis-like
haircut, The too tight tights and the ability to do whatever he desires, which
includes, super speed, the ability to fly, heat vision, x-ray vision, and any
other super power imaginable. Metro Man is indestructible and although Mega
Mind is doomed to fail in every attempt to destroy him he continues to try.
This is the next aspect of Megamind that I enjoy. Despite the inevitability of
his failure he continues to try and he ultimately succeeds, well sort of, when
Metro Man decides to fake his own death in the hopes of escaping the pressure
of being a super hero. With the absence of Metro Man Megamind doesn’t have
anything to live for, so he creates his own super hero to fight against. The
new super hero takes on the name titan but has no intentions of being good.
Once Titan realizes he was merely created to amuse Megamind he goes berserk and
tries to destroy the city that they al inhabit. Titan having been made from the DNA of Metro
Man is virtually indestructible and it’s up to Megamind to save the day. He
uses his wits and ultimately saves the day.
