Kanye West: Homecoming

This song talks about Kanye's hometown, Chicago. He describes it in the beginning of his life here in the line "I met her when I was 3 years old, a place where Mommy used to make chicken soup for me when I was cold". Here he describes not only his mother's passion and persistence for his well-being but he also, in a very subtle manner, describes Chicago's temperatures. Throughout the entire song Kanye continues to refer to his hometown as a woman. A misdirection first that was first popularized by Common in his song H.E.R. Common was  referring to Hip-Hop however not Chicago. He describes Chicago as a place where rappers aspire to become great, but he also refers to how difficult it is to become a rapper, and then how hard it is to become a successful rapper at that.
