Community
My chosen community is the chess team. We practice three times a week after school from 3:30-5:00. There isn't necessarily a locker for which a store our things but there is a wooden box located in the corner lab of the Golden House in the Main Building on Floor 3. There we store all of our supplies for upcoming tournaments and events. On the chess team I play 3rd board meaning I am the 3rd best player on the team and I play the 3rd best players from all the other teams. The way the system works is each team assembles a team of eight players. From there the assembled eight players enter the tournament and are assigned to play another team of eight. Each board has a designated amount of points for which each board is worth. Whichever player wins that board earns whatever amount of points his/her board is worth. The boards worth decrease from 1st to 8th.
My expectations of the chess team are monumental. Not only do i expect the chess team to win the state championship I also want for us to win the national title. In order for these odds to be achieved the chess team must remain extremely focused. We must attend all of our practices and take the next few competitions extremely seriously. My role on the chess team alongside board 2 are the anchors. We are usually under-matched against our opponents are expected to win all if not most of our games in order for our team to stand a chance in the pairings.
The chess team is my community because we all affiliated with one another through the same game that we all love to play. It's my community because we're a team. I've known most of the guys on the team for the better part of my life. As a team we wish to see one another succeed. We challenge each other to become better and to strive for perfection. The chess team is my community because we all push for
the best from one another.
